Ria Das Art

Am a painter looking for art in chaos. With encouragement from those around me, I took up painting seriously 2010 onwards. Since then I have created a substantial body of work and exhibited in shows. I am essentially self-taught, but I have had the help of mentors and have read many excellent resources.  My favourite subject of paint is almost always people.  And with my Art, extracting a person from the crowd and creating some sort of story or emotion has always been the goal. Why i choose people, has to do with my lifelong interest in what motivates; inspires; disturbs; frightens; and makes happy or sad, the people I come in contact with.  Extracting them from the crowd and seeing them as individuals.  For me, there’s a story in just about every one of my paintings.  My hope, is that whether it’s a narrative or a portrait, you’ll somehow, find in the painting, a story of your own
I attempt to capture what i find through Acrylics and Watercolors. My medium of choice however is watercolour. Watercolour is never boring, I enjoy the unpredictability in it, the surprise factor and adventure as I watch the colours mingle and blend on the paper in front of me.

I love the depth that can be created with watercolor, the layers are transparent so their stories can be told with a few brush strokes. What amazes me is its immediacy, transparency, luminosity and the expressive possibilities that water and pigment gives to create infinite atmospheres and textures. My work is a study in contrasts: light and dark, all consuming yet subtle, warm and cool tones, the real and the imagined, bringing in the nuances of life. These elements are designed to merge, make magic and sometimes find resolution on the surface of the paper or canvas. And by doing so, I invite you to take part in my artistic process thats driven by emotions.

Thank you all for spending some time with me.
